DataGov
Abstract
In order to manage for development results effectively, good indicators are needed to measure, monitor and evaluate performance. Such indicators can contribute to the capacity to assess performance, set goals and targets, improve decision-making, analyze impact of country reform efforts, monitor and evaluate whether the resources allocated are making the intended difference. This dynamic has contributed to a growing demand for accessible, regularly updated and comprehensive indicators. To that regard, DataGob has been developed as part of a global partnership to provide a centralized and user-friendly interface for accessing most of the publicly available indicators related to governance. The indicators used in DataGob are drawn from about 30 different publications of a variety of institutions, including multilateral organizations, NGOs, private firms, and think tanks. The paper will discuss the role of DataGov as a knowledge and decision-support tool. Background and technical information will be provided on DataGov itself, including information on the different types of indicators and the methodology that was used to construct them.
