Strategies for the fight against poverty: a case of Bangladesh

Abstract

This paper attempts a synthesis of all the strategies adopted by the Government of Bangladesh for the fight against poverty. The paper also presents, in brief, the poverty situation in Bangladesh and the measures already taken by the Government of Bangladesh.

The scope is rather limited: the paper deals with the different poverty reduction strategies taken by the Interim Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (IPRSP) of Bangladesh.

The paper provides evaluation of various measures already taken by the Government of Bangladesh to reduce poverty.

The paper concludes with some comments on the fundamentals of the poverty alleviation measures.
